Australind, Western Australia 1991
Location: Australind, Western Australia
Event: Yowie Sighting
There’s a river there that runs through Australind, and its all paddocks on one side and bush land on the other. I used to go down there to swim nearly every day during summer while in High School.
There’s a lot of wildlife, like wild pigs and such so we used to go hunting there also.
One night, I thought I’d go for a walk down to the river. It’s probably a 30 or 40 minute walk on the bush track. It’s really beautiful down there, but not on this night. Everything just went quiet and I felt like I was being watched. I didn’t feel comfortable, I just wanted to get out of there. So I got up and started walking back along the bush track not making any noise at all.
There was bush to my right and it was really thick bush. There was “crunch, crunch, crunch” like somebody walking on sticks. I looked to my right, I couldn’t see anything because it was dark. When I stopped, it stopped. When I walked it walked.
Then I saw an outline of something.
Then I got a better look. It was well over 7ft tall – probably more towards 8ft tall. It looked like a man, but it had hair over it, about 2-3 inches long. It was about 7ft away trying to hide behind a tree, but I could see the size of it. It was a solid build. It looked like Chewbacca from Star Wars, but more shape/muscle. It was a fit type of solid.
It ran like a Human, but wasn’t a Human. I could definitely see the hair. It was covered all over with hair like an Orangutan. It was no Human. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
I kept walking and “crunch, crunch, crunch”, again when I stopped, it stopped. I thought this thing is hunting me, and if I run, this thing is going to get me. I walked quickly trying to keep as calm as I could. I watched it following me for about 10 minutes.
The track ahead went around to the right and I thought if it keeps following me, we’re going to meet up ahead because it would have to come out on the track, so I started running as fast as I could.
When I got back to my bike, which I had hidden in the bush, my chain was off and there were 3 or 4 sticks poked into the chain. So I was wondering if it had been watching me the whole time and followed me down to the river.
I was at that time close to the road. I ran to the closed street light.
There is absolutely no doubt about what I saw.
I’ve never been back there again.
