Myself and a mate were driving north towards Tamworth on the Tamworth-Nundle Road. Just before Tamworth there’s about 6 to 8km of winding road downwards. About a kilometre or two down from the cuttings on top near the last set of pine forest, it was just on the side of the road.
I’d come up over and around a bend and my headlights hit something. It started off on four legs, it seemed to be close to the ground. A few seconds later it seemed bigger, and hairy and it was definitely coming at me on all fours still. It was coming at the car, like it came out on the road at the car and I had to swerve to miss this thing.
My mate got a better look at it than me because I was busy trying to avoid it. Its hair was a tan colour. It was big and hairy. I didn’t see a neck. It had a big head and long limbs. It came at the car and I’ve had to swerve.
My mate got a good look at it and he said it had arms and legs and said it looked like a monkey running around up there. It was like we spooked it. It had nowhere to go, so it’s turned around and just come at us. My mate said he saw it come of the road ahead. It started off down low, then all of a sudden it was massive. It was huge and hairy. I thought it was going to get us. He was coming for us at a diagonal angle. I don’t know how it didn’t hit us. My mate says it flung its arms up at me. He said it came out and ran across the road and then turned around and dropped to all fours and came at us. It was bigger than me. It was like a half grown cow. It came at us with a spidery gallop.
I’m still trying to piece it all together. My mate was stunned, and he’s the type that would laugh at you if you told him this type of story. I’m still trying to get it clear in my head. I don’t really want to go back there.
