Time:
I was working on the Coolawanyah Station halfway between Dorrigo and Ebor back around 2010-11. We had a fencing contract, we did about 30/40kms of fence.
A couple of the guys came and said to check this out. So we went to the bottom of the spurs and there was a waterfall, so we went for a swim. I lay my top and my pants on a birch tree next to the waterfall and swam. There was a hole in the side of the rock wall of the waterfall, but I wasn’t game to put my hand in it.
We came back the next day and the birch tree was snapped at the base. I don’t know if you know anything about birch trees, but they are pretty hard to snap. This thing was snapped clean. There was also a rock jammed in the hole of the waterfall. I asked the boys if they did it and they all said they didn’t. Then we all got a really eerie feeling and the Boss said ‘Come guys, let’s go, let’s get out of here’.
We went back to the house and parked the Pajero up in the shed and I slept in a room only about 3 metres away. Then I could hear the suspension bouncing. It sounded like someone was trying to lift the car up, you could hear the suspension creaking and bouncing. I could hear like a grunting snorting noise. We went out the next day and there was a footprint with only 3 toes. I showed the boys and they were like ‘oh yeah right’, they thought I was trying to stir them up.
We packed up and headed back towards the spur and we came over the ridge and we saw this thing, it would have been 10, 11 or 12ft, and it turned and looked at us, we were about 100m coming over the hill, and it’s seen us coming over the hill and this thing took off and ran across the paddock like nothing I’ve ever seen in my life. It would out run Mick Doohan on a bike, this thing was fast. Super, super fast. It was moving. It was hunched over and its arm swings were just phenomenal. Looked like it was trying to stay low to the ground. It just took off up into the hills.
We got down there and there was probably about a dozen of our steel fence posts pulled out of the ground. A couple of them were twisted. No one could ever twist these. Up the end was a big steel strainer, and it was in the ground 700 deep and they take about 5 minutes to put in and it would take 3 blokes half an hour to get out, and it was just pulled straight out of the ground.
It was something I’ll never forget, that’s for sure.
This thing was black, it seemed to have rather short hair, huge shoulders and arm length. It ran straight across the paddock and it was leaning forward, and its arms were perpendicular to the ground and swinging fully like an Olympic sprinter, but its arms would have been 6ft or something, they were huge. Huge long arms. It didn’t seem to have long legs, I don’t know if that was because it was leaning forwards, but this thing was moving. It would have covered about 150m in about 4 seconds. This thing was really travelling. It ran straight across the paddock, over the creek and into the bush.
It was built thick, and looked like a Gorilla. Like a 10 or 11ft Gorilla, but upright. I’m 6’1” and I wouldn’t have come up to its tits. It had no neck. It was like its shoulders and neck were moulded together. It was like a Gorilla, its shoulders were huge. When it ran its arms swung stretched fully forward like it was reaching for something, then fully back the other way behind it.
I didn’t have any fear. It was coming up around the house and rummaging through things at night. I’d just be lying in my swag frozen. I couldn’t move. You could smell it, It was there watching us. It smelt like rotten eggs.
