I was coming back from Bara, on Bara Road towards Mudgee just before dusk. It’s a dirt road with lots of Kangaroo’s, so I was driving slowly.

I saw him/her/whatever and I didn’t know what it was until I was about 30m away and it had something in its hands, which looked like a chicken. There’s not a lot of room to move down there because it is only one lane with lots of potholes, so I slowed down even more. I had a look at it and bolted – I wasn’t sticking around. It was just standing there in a ditch. It looked like it had been caught out in the open.

There was a densely wooded mountain just there and it must have come out of that. At the closest I was to it was about 3 metres or closer. I wasn’t sticking around to take pictures! I had the window open. It was just standing there, really hairy and dark brown.

I looked at it and he looked at me. We locked eyes for a second and I thought “I’m out of here”. I took off.

It was taller than the car and he was standing in a ditch, so I think about 2 metres tall or 7ft. It had course hair, no neck, the hair was about 6” all over. It was large and solid, like bricks on legs. Long arms and it was standing upright. My elbows come down close to my hip, but his elbows went down to the top of his legs. He was barrel chested, no discernible waist, sort of a cone head or egg shape, broad shoulders, flat nose, not as much hair on the face, eyes were brown and roundish, dark skin on the face and looked like a caveman / Neanderthal. It was bigger than a human. It was an adult. He had a surprised expression – his face and eyebrows went up.

I was afraid because I didn’t know if they attack humans, and I wasn’t going to be one of those people if they do and I was in remote wilderness. Hardly anyone goes out there.
