Hi AYR,

This is a picture that was taken by mum and dad while walking along the Abercrombie River looking for old Gold mining shafts on private property.

This was taken on a sandbar in the middle of the river. Not sure what year, around 1998-1999

They both freaked and headed back for their Toyota as they were rattled!

They went back the next day with camera and shotgun but all the footprints were skewed. Kangaroo prints and animal tracks destroyed the integrity of the prints.

Many years before this, our whole family camped on the Abercrombie river for a long weekend. Mum and dad, boyfriends and girlfriends, (we were19) Sisters and brothers, cousins etc.

We were awoken in the middle of the night by the most deep sounding roar and the sound of something smashing through scrub coming down the other side of the river which would have only bee a couple hundred metres. It was the most frightening sound!

My cousin got up and rekindled the fire and sat with gun in hand, we sat and listening and we were all freaking out!

We told one of the old farmers who lived on one of the homes on the property the next day and he said that he’d Never go out down there at night without a shotgun.

Michelle
