Location: Gunnedah, New South Wales
Event: Yowie Sighting
Date of Sighting: 2003
Time: 10-11pm
Myself and 3 mates had been fishing at a river between Tamworth and Gunnedah. We were driving back to Gunnedah at around 10 – 11pm and were only about 2kms out of town when this thing ran across the road about 10 – 15m ahead of us.
It was hunched right over with its hands almost touching the ground and running in an awkward manner like it was a bit uncoordinated. It was hunched right over with its arms right down.
And as its running, it had its head tilted to the side looking right at us.
We were like what the hell is that? We were all pretty silent for a while. And then Mark, one of the other guys in the car said “That’s a bloody Yowie”. We all grew up out in the bush and we’ve never seen anything like that before.
This was on the Tamworth side of Gunnedah, about 2kms out.
It ran from the right from where the river is, across the road and to the left side, which is more of a hilly type area.
It was covered in a shaggy grey’ish hair about 3 or 4” long. This thing was right in our lights and we all saw it. It had an awkward type of run, like a chimpanzee using its arms to run. It tilted its head looking at us as it ran. It was a bit taller than me.
It just ran across the road in front of us, and that was it.
